HisPanic is a theatre collective that creates original collaborations between English and Spanish artists. Our projects explore themes of identity from cultural perspectives with aims to reduce linguistic barriers and bring these cultures closer. The company is led by Alejandro Postigo, PhD specialist in the international revitalization of Copla.

The Team

Author and performer Alejandro Postigo has a PhD in ‘Intercultural adaptation of Copla’ from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. As a theatre maker, his latest project 'Miss Brexit' (Omnibus) champions non-native English-speaking artists.

Alejandro is Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre at the London College of Music, University of West London, and he has worked as an actor in West End productions such as ‘In the Heights’ (Kings Cross Theatre), ‘Flahooley’ (Sadler’s Wells), ‘Marty and the Party’ (Southbank Centre), ‘The Winter’s Tale, Romeo and Juliet and Swan Lake’ (Royal Opera House) and TV sitcom ‘Episodes’ (BBC), among others. He has assisted in West End projects ‘Strictly Ballroom’ (Piccadilly Theatre), choreographed musical ‘Nutcracker’ (Pleasance) and opera ‘The Merry Widow’ (Wilton’s Music Hall), and regularly collaborates with the Royal Ballet since 2012.

Violinist Violeta Valladares studied in Madrid’s Royal Conservatoire and London’s Guildhall School, in extensive collaboration with the Drama department. She is a classically trained violinist who expanded her craft as musician/performer in theatre and multidisciplinary settings, also in the context of community arts. She has played in projects such as ‘Survivor’ by choreographer Hofesh Schechter and sculptor Antony Gormley (Barbican), ‘Sex Workers Opera’ (Arcola and International tour since 2014) and ‘The Copla Musical’ in its different forms since 2011. She is part of Orchestra Simfònica Segle XXI (Barcelona), and former member of Quintet Iberian Colours, dedicated to classical & popular music from Iberian Peninsula, and trio ‘Farsa Moneda’ which played copla in UK for three years.

Director Sergio Maggiolo is a queer, London-based Peruvian-born/American-trained actor and theatre director. Their show ‘Jeezus’ has been recently seen at Brixton House, Pleasance and Camden People’s Theatre, and is the recipient of the EdFringe Untapped Award 2025. Their career started on screen on Peruvian television, after which they undertook further training in New York, before moving to London. In the UK, they're best known for their work in bold, subversive theatre as an actor and director, and are proud to have worked at theatres such as Arcola, Battersea Arts Centre and Southwark Playhouse. ​Jack Elsdon is a musical director, multi-instrumentalist, orchestrator and keyboard programmer working predominantly in musical theatre. He is the pianist and Musical Director of "Copla: A Spanish Cabaret". Currently, Jack is working a keyboard and guitar deputy for "Now That's What I Call A Musical" UK Tour, and “Bat Out Of Hell” UK Tour.
​Jack has arranged and orchestrator for "Waiting In The Wings" at Newcastle Civic Centre, as well as accompanying and working with various West End actors including Zizi Strallen, Jenna Boyd and Kris Manuel. Working extensively as a musician for various theatre projects has led Jack to be a Guitar deputy for "Beauty and the Beast" pantomime at Durham Gala, a Bass deputy for "Little Shop of Horrors" UK Tour 2024, Keyboard 2/Guitar for "Sweet Charity" at ArtsEd, and Keyboard 1 for "Confessions" at London College of Music.

Ricardo Ferreira is the artist behind the graphics, video, projections and multimedia for Copla: a Spanish Cabaret. He is an actor, National Youth Theatre Ambassador, London College of Music mentor for BA Acting and a Lyric Hammersmith Young associate.

Recent work include "I Am Gina" (2024) with Rhum + Clay and the National Youth Theatre, and "Miss Brexit", an Award winning show he is proud of having co-devised. He has performed internationally throughout Europe—including in Czechia, Germany, Italy, and Portugal—and in London at venues such as Camden People’s Theatre, Omnibus Theatre, Rose Theatre, and Streatham Space Project. Ricardo is passionate about representation of minorities and diversity in the arts, and he continues to explore his craft with international exchanges.
